As Fortnite fun in all shapes and flavors continues, we return to the island to bring back those precious memories – well, at least some of them. Here are the five we have chosen as the most memorable events in Fortnite's history so far. So, let's get the Battle Royale mode on, grab your soda and nachos and re-enjoy the awesome moments the game has given us over the years!
Welcome BANG to Season 3! Is it a (big) bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a meteor with its flaming tail moving through the sky! It gave us some time to scratch our heads and speculate about its origins, purpose and, most of all, about its impact. We had to wait until Season 4 to find the answer to the last one. There was no special live event, as it's hard to negotiate terms and conditions with meteors, it just crashed on the island, making a huge crater in the place that used to be known as Dusty Depot, and we found out about the result right after opening Chapter 1 of Season 4 (17 April 2018). The Fortnite map has never been the same ever since, but as Sheryl Crow sings: change would do you good – and it's true, because it keeps the game fresh, after all. So, it gave us lots of excitement, a new landscape, and a new popular location called Dusty Divot.
Although the exact Cube's role in the world of Fortnite remains a mystery, its appearance has been responsible for a lot of excitement among the players, who started calling it simply – Kevin. The Cube made its spectacular entrance at the beginning of Season 5. It was like a stadium rock concert with some special effects, only it took place in the sky – which opened to reveal a giant purple... Kevin right over the Loot Lake. Despite being... well, a cube, Kevin was quite lively, we would say. He would travel around the island and leave a trail of magical runes behind. Eventually Kevin returned to the lake and dove in, creating the Floating Island. Thanks Kev!
Kevin The Cube also had his part in the next event which took place in Season 6. Following some unexplained appearances of butterflies and rifts, we entered a new realm called the Butterfly Dimension, where we could tangibly witness the island's rebirth. Then Kevin returned from the Loot Lake and by sacrificing himself created a rift in the sky, releasing a huge butterfly. Its flapping wings created a wave of energy that surged across the map and seemingly consumed everything. Everyone was blinded by the light for a while, only to find themselves falling through a psychedelic landscape to enter the exciting new world.
In 2020 a digitalized Travis Scott entered the Fortnite reality in Season 2 and performed during a gig known as the Astronomical Event. The experience was created especially for Fortnite players, who immersed into music, light and space with full interaction. Remember flying into the sky after being launched by an explosion or watching a giant Travis Scott avatar? And on top of that the rapper premiered his brand new song during this event. Wicked!
The classic story of good and evil in Fortnite's version is called Mecha vs. Monster or The Final Showdown. As a giant monster emerged from the ocean and threatened the island, a Macha Team Leader was constructed in order to defend the Fortnite world. That granted us an epic battle of the two unstoppable forces. Some Fortnite players had the chance to control the Mecha Team Leader in the kaiju-style fight with the so-called Devourer, while others used lasers and rockets to cooperatively overpower the monster. The island's forces finished the battle with victory, which is still engraved in players' memories.
